Automating metal coatings thickness analysis is particularly challenging when dealing with extremely thin coatings, as this requires highly sensitive imaging and precise measurement techniques. Variations in coating thickness across a surface, combined with interference from the substrate and effects of surface roughness, introduce significant complexities in obtaining accurate measurements. The diversity in coating materials and the variability introduced by different coating processes further complicate the automation of thickness analysis.
