Challenges
Automating phase transformation analysis in titanium is fraught with challenges, primarily due to its complex phase structures, such as alpha, beta, and alpha-beta phases, which require precise imaging techniques for differentiation. The sensitivity of titanium's phase composition to processing conditions, such as heat treatments and cooling rate, introduces significant variability, complicating consistent automated analysis. Identifying and quantifying interphase boundaries and the effects of alloying elements further add to the complexity. Additionally, the quality of sample preparation, including specific polishing and etching techniques, is crucial for reliable phase transformation analysis in titanium alloys.
