Automating defect analysis in ceramic materials involves challenges in detecting microscopic defects like micro-cracks and pores, which require sensitive and high-resolution imaging techniques. The variability in defect types and sizes, coupled with the effects of the sintering process on defect formation, adds complexity to the analysis. Differentiating actual defects from inherent microstructural features demands advanced image processing and analytical techniques. Furthermore, accurate quantification and characterization of these defects, essential for assessing their impact on material properties, are complicated by variations in sample preparation and surface finish.
