Analyzing ceramic grain size presents challenges due to less distinct grain boundaries and a wide variability in grain size and shape within samples. High-quality, high-resolution imaging is essential to accurately identify and measure grains, particularly in fine-grained ceramics. The sintering process and the presence of porosity can significantly influence grain size and distribution, complicating the measurement process. Additionally, consistent sample preparation and accounting for variations in chemical composition are crucial for reliable grain size analysis in ceramics, including materials like silicon nitride.
